Painted Icon of St. Archangels Michael and Gabriel.

Michael (Hebrew word meaning: Who is like God?) Bears this name as an expression of the glorious victory won by him on the Lucifer, the chief angels rebellious against God. In the midst of battle, Michael exclaimed: "Who is like God?" Who measures him self with God? And so, Lucifer (light bearer) is banished to hell, the kingdom of darkness and became Satan. Another archangel, Gabriel (Hebrew word meaning: the power of God) is the major carrier of God's messages. The Church celebrates him on November 8.
